The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region (LA Regional Board) adopted the Malibu Creek and Lagoon Bacteria Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), which became effective on January 24, 2006. Certain reaches of Malibu Creek, including Medea Creek and Chesebro Canyon Channel, have shown water quality impairments from fecal coliform bacteria that exceed the water quality objectives established by this TMDL to protect the beneficial uses of the Malibu Creek and Lagoon.

The City of Agoura Hills continues to actively work on addressing water quality concerns, and has teamed up with Quantum Ozone and Water Way Solutions, LLC, for two pilot projects currently under way. The objective of these projects are to eliminate the impact of TMDL and CWA 303(d) listed pollutants present in urban runoff before it continues downstream into Santa Monica Bay by utilizing advancements in technology and treatment methods. In addition, it is our hope these projects will help us in our efforts to meet or exceed the established water quality objectives for the Malibu Creek Watershed.
